A combi swap means we take out your existing combi boiler and fit a new one in its place.
How to tell if you have a combi: you get hot water straight away when you turn on a hot tap, and there’s no hot water cylinder. The easiest check is to count the pipes under the boiler. An older non-condensing combi has six pipes. A modern condensing combi has six copper pipes plus one plastic pipe, which is the condensate pipe.
A heat-only boiler heats the water for your radiators, and your hot water is stored separately in a hot water cylinder. We replace the old heat-only boiler with a new one.
How to tell if you have a heat-only boiler: it’s usually noticeably smaller than a combi, and you’ll find a hot water cylinder in an airing cupboard or somewhere else in the home.
If you have an older system, such as a back boiler behind a fire or a wall-mounted heat-only boiler, with a hot water cylinder, we remove the old system and alter the pipework to fit a new combi boiler. You get hot water on demand and free up your cupboard space.
We fit a new boiler and replace your old open-vented system with a sealed, unvented hot water cylinder, sized for the number of people in your home. You get strong mains-pressure hot water at every tap and shower, and the old water tanks in the loft come out.
You keep your boiler, and we replace your old vented hot water cylinder with a new, more efficient sealed unvented cylinder.
An older vented system relies on a cold water tank in the loft, so the pressure comes only from gravity. That often means a weak flow at your taps and shower, and the loft tank can collect sludge and debris. A new unvented cylinder runs at mains pressure, giving you a strong flow.
How many people live in the home? We size the cylinder to suit.
A central heating filter, such as an ADEY MagnaClean, fits on the pipework next to your boiler. Over time, every heating system builds up black sludge (iron oxide) and small bits of debris. The filter uses a strong magnet to catch this before it reaches your boiler and radiators.
That keeps the water in your system clean, helps your heating run efficiently, and extends the life of your boiler. ADEY says it can cut heating bills by up to 6%. We clean it out at your annual boiler service.
We strongly recommend fitting one. Most boiler manufacturers can void your warranty if a central heating filter isn’t fitted, or if the water in your heating system isn’t kept to the required standard.
